Battle of the Budgets on ESPN, Day 1
Imagine Sports recently worked with ESPN.com to create Battle of the Budgets. In this simulated draft and head-to-head competition, four top baseball writers - Steve Phillips of "Baseball Tonight," Buster Olney of ESPN The Magazine, and ESPN.com's Jayson Stark and Rob Neyer -- drafted their own 25-man rosters with a $40 million budget. Yes, $40 mil seams a bit miserly if you're rooting for teams in New York or LA, but hey, we're in a recession you know.
Using our Diamond Mind Baseball software, the writers went head-to-head in seven-game series with the semi-final winners facing off to determine a champion. But before popping the champaign, the ultimate general manager had to pit his budget-conscious team against the deep-pocketed New York Yankees in a seven-game series.
